Working principle of electric motor rotor
The working principle of an electric motor rotor is based on the Lorentz force and Faraday's electromagnetic induction law. In an electric motor, the stationary part whose axis is fixed is called the stator, and its magnetic field is stable. The rotor is the rotating part, and when the current flowing through it interacts with the stator magnetic field, a rotating torque will be generated. This rotating torque can be described by the Lorentz force formula:
F = qE + q(v*B)
where F is the rotating torque, q is the charge, E is the electric field strength, v is the speed, and B is the magnetic field strength. When a current flows through the rotor coil, a magnetic field is generated around the rotor, which can interact with the magnetic field in the stator. Under this interaction, a rotating torque occurs, driving the rotor to rotate continuously.
In addition, in alternating current motors, a changing electromagnetic field will be established between the rotor coil and the stator coil. In this changing electromagnetic field, each coil will generate an alternating electromotive force, causing electrons in the conductor to move and produce current. This alternating current then generates a corresponding alternating magnetic field through the rotor coil, which further drives the rotor to rotate. Therefore, alternating current motors are usually more commonly and widely used than direct current motors.
